The Lamorinda Community Band
The Lamorinda Community Band was formed in January of 2023 by Orinda music educator John Speers. Mr. Speers has always had a deep passion for sharing the joy of music with the public and he wanted to create an ensemble for community members of all ages to come together and create music on a regular basis.
Since its inception, the Lamorinda Community Band has achieved tremendous success in attracting and recruiting musicians in the area who are seeking an ensemble to play with. In August 2023, the organization added a string orchestra, in addition to its concert band. An entry-level band for younger wind and percussion students was added in January 2025, as well as an entry-level string orchestra in August, 2025. The Lamorinda Community Band runs completely on donations and is an official 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The Lamorinda Community Band is very excited to continue its journey for years to come!
Originally intended to be a youth ensemble limited to younger students, Mr. Speers discovered that there were several parents of students, along with other adults in the community who also play instruments and had expressed interest in joining the group. He decided to expand the group into a community ensemble that welcomed both students and adults.
Our Mission
The Lamorinda Community Band’s mission is to build a thriving and accessible community music program that creates opportunities for students and amateurs to collaborate in concert performances, outreach events, leadership building and mentorship, and groupprivate musical instruction.
