John Speers

John Speers was born and raised in Lafayette and attended Miramonte High School. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelors degree in music performance in 2011 and received his masters from the San Francisco Conservatory in 2015. Mr. Speers decided to pursue a teaching credential the following year, while at the same time he then began working as an elementary school band and general music teacher for the Lafayette School District. In 2022, he was hired as the elementary school band and strings teacher for the Orinda Unified School District, where he continues to teach. Mr. Speers also teaches a full studio of private students at the Lamorinda Music Store in Lafayette. Having had the dream for many years of starting a community ensemble, he was able to make that dream come true in January of 2023, when he started the Lamorinda Community Band. He is very proud of his ensemble and hopes to continue spreading his passion for instrumental music to the Lamorinda community and beyond.
